There has been some controversy about Brigid Schulte’s article on a DC area lingerie store in The Washington Post. A SyLene customer thought the article lacked journalistic integrity, and wrote a letter to the editor of The Washington Post. Then, Andrea Rodgers at AskMissA.com wrote about the controversial article on her website. Take a look!

A ski vacation involves not only the ski clothes and equipment, but also clothing for the trip to and from the resort, days off, and dining out. The important thing to know is, when packing for skiing, more is better than not enough. You need to pack for varying temperatures, extreme conditions, comfort and safety.Dressing for skiing involves several layers of clothing to stay warm on the slopes. Thermal underwear, long-sleeved shirts or turtleneck shirts, moisture-wicking socks is the first layer closest to the skin. Next comes the sweaters, sweatshirts, and water-repellant pants. The outer layers are a ski jacket, hat or helmet, gloves, and a gaiter or neck warmer. Sunglasses or goggles for sun and snow glare are also very important.

If you plan on skipping a day of skiing to go shopping or just relax, you will need casual clothes such as jeans, warm sweaters and comfortable boots. Remember to take your workout clothes in case you decide to hit the gym. The only time you will need to think about something fancier is for the evening hours. However, even in the poshest of ski resorts, jeans are acceptable everywhere. Dress them up with attractive shirts, sweaters, and accessories.

Wearing the Right Size Bra?

January 7th, 2008

Did you know that 80 percent of women wear the wrong size bra?. Wearing the right bra can make you look thinner and make your clothes to fit better. An ill-fitting bra not only makes you look saggy, but can also cause poor posture.

Here are few questions to ask:

  1. Does the underwire poke into your breasts?
  2. Are your breasts spilling out of the cups?
  3. Is the strap across your back riding up?
  4. Are your breasts not where they used to be in clothes?
  5. Have you considered trying a different bra size in the last 5 years?
  6. Have you gained or lost 10-15 lbs without considering a different size bra?

Find the right bra for you by following these steps.

Step #1. Find Your Band Size

Using a tape measure, take a snug measurement around your ribcage, right beneath your breasts. Make sure the measuring tape is low and taut on your back. Take this number and add five. If the number is odd, round up.

Step #2. Determine Your Cup Size

Measure around the fullest part of your breasts. The difference between band size and this measurement in inches will  determine your cup size.

-If the difference is less than one inch then you are a AA
-If the difference is one inch then you are an A
-If the difference is two inches then you are a B
-If the difference is three inches then you are a C
-If the difference is four inches then you are a D (and so on)

For example, if your band size is 36 and the fullest part of your breasts are 38 inches, then you are a 36B.

Step #3. Find the right fit

Aside from calculating your bra size yourself, you can also get professionally fitted the next time you are in your favorite lingerie boutique or department store. Just ask for assistance. Of course, the way a bra fits varies according to the style, manufacturer and fabric, so you need to be aware of not only your size, but also how to tell if your bra fits properly or not. Here are the ways to tell if a bra fits properly or not:

-There are no bulges or spillage.
-The center of the underwire should be flush against your cleavage area.
-The band should be below your shoulder blades, on the smallest part of your back, not riding up.
-The straps should not dig into your skin. If they are, your band may not be doing it’s job, and may need to be tightened to give more support.
-If you begin to have neck and shoulder pain, tighten the band. When your straps are doing all the work, so are your neck and shoulder muscles. Make sure your band and straps are tightened properly so that you can be pain free.
-Your breasts should completely fill the cup, meaning there are no gaps or wrinkles.
-The underwire should surround and support your breasts, not poke them.

Step #4. Find the right style for your body type

If you are fuller busted, you may need to try on many styles to find out which one offers the best support and the most natural shape.

If you on the smaller side, you may want more defined cups, with shaping and padding. Push up bras are a great option.

You should remeasure yourself every year and with every weight change of five to ten pounds. Wearing the right bra size is essential to your overall style. It can make or break your look, define your waist, give you confidence and make you feel sexier!

What undergarments are the best for giving your chest a smaller appearance?

Big_busted_bras_3Bras called minimizers are the way to go. Don’t let the word minimizer scare you either because the last 5 years have brought about an array of beautiful minimizers, not the granny ones you are probably imagining. Sexy laces, trendy prints, and thinner straps with all the support of the harness’ that USED to be.  Really, don’t turn your heads when a lingerie expert pulls a few for you to try on. You will be pleasantly surprised at how sexy you will feel in today’s minimizers. Minimizers that provide a well rounded, reduced shape. Look for Freya, Prima Donna, Rigby and Peller, or Fantasie.

Blisters on your Boobs?

August 12th, 2007

If that didn’t get your attention then I don’t know what will. The question proposed here:

I find that sometimes when I buy a bra, it looks and feels great in the dressing room but when I wear it, I discover  it’s uncomfortable or lacking support.  Any tips???

You know when you are shoe shopping and the awesome patent leather peep toes look and feel amazing, but the first night you wear them, you come home, barely able to walk, with blisters all over you feet. To to prevent this from happening when bra shopping, I highly recommend the following:

  • Get help from the sales staff. A trained salesperson will measure you, tell you if the bra fits correctly, and determine if the bra provides you with enough support.
  • If you prefer your privacy, jump up and down in the dressing a couple times to see how you a nd the bra move. If you bounce all over the place, try another one.
  • Another good test is to put a shirt on over the bra you are trying and browse the store for a few minutes. This will give you a chance to see if the bra moves with you as you do normal daily activities.
