How can you tell if your bra is worn out and needs replacing?
If wear and tear is visible, it is obvious that your bra is past its best. Elasticity is another sign. If you can stretch the material and it doesn’t snap back to its former shape when you let go, the bra is not giving your breasts the support they require. When a bra loses elasticity, the back panel may become too wide, causing it to ride up. The reduced elasticity may also have a negative impact on cup lift. The fastest way to accelerate wear and tear is incorrect laundering. Always take care to wash your lingerie with the right product and use a lingerie pouch. Lay your bra on a flat surface to dry, but never in direct sunlight or on a heat source. Wearing your bra on successive days without washing it is also inadvisable, as perspiration can damage the fabric.

Support your New Years Resolution with a new sports bra. Here are some guidelines for selecting the right one:
- Look for sports bras that come in cup and band sizes rather than just small, medium or large; they fit more precisely.
- Choose bras with strategically placed seams and stitching, which help cushion the breast.
- Pick high-performance fabrics that wick away sweat to minimize chafing.
- Own a variety of sports bras for different levels of activity. When in doubt, choose a higher-impact bra for a lower-impact sport.
- Before buying, jump, swing your arms and move around. If a bra pokes, runs, slips, jiggles, constricts your breathing, or bulges, it’s not for you.
Some of our favorites:
This underwire sports bra from Natori is made of a cotton blend fabric that is incredibly soft yet supportive. This supportive sports bra from Lunaire is great for the fuller busted woman with an active lifestyle. Coolmax microfiber on the outside of the cup gives this bra a smooth look. Coolmax cotton on the inside wicks away moisture. Its comfortable underwire moves with you.

I bought a great dress to wear to a New Years Eve party, but I’m having the worst time finding a bra that doesn’t show. The dress has a very deep, wide-set V, almost to the waist, and very little material holding it all together. I wish I could go braless, but that’s just not in the cards anymore. Can you help me?
After taking a look at the dress, I knew I had my work cut out. We tried on several bras that didn’t work because there was always a little something that would show. Then the bell went off and I knew I had the perfect solution: the LZ bra. It’s made to be extremely low cut and is held together by a very thin bridge. It was surefire winner!

A dear friend of mine recently had a baby. She’s holding up pretty well, but the problem is her “girls” are not. I don’t have the heart to tell her this, but she often looks like she’s not wearing a bra! She’s just started working again and I’d love to help her look more polished and give her something to lift her and her spirits. What do you suggest?
All new moms need a makeover to help them adjust to their new bodies and I think it’s wonderful that you want your friend to look her best. I suggest getting your friend a Sylene gift card, so she can come in or shop SyleneDC.com at her convenience. At our store, she can get a personal consultation and expert bra fitting. From what you have said, she needs to start with a comfortable and functional bra that she can wear to work. Our everyday bras range from $50 to $80 each.
With the gift card, we will also include a copy of our “S Factor Makeover” booklet, which maps out the essential items that all women need in their lingerie drawer. I’m sure before long, your friend will look in the mirror and see what a difference a great bra can make.

Problem: One cup fits find, the other either bulges or puckers
Explanation: One breast is larger than the other (very common).
Solution: Many women have one breast larger than the other. If your difference is significant, you have several choices. Try a bra with stretch fabric in the cup. You can also try a bra with light padding or a molded cup that may hide the size difference. Another solution may be to try adjusting the straps so that the larger breast cup is looser than the smaller breast cup. And, finally, you can purchase inserts and place it in the side with the smaller breast.

I have a dress with a very low v-neckline. My regular bra shows. Do you have any suggestions for a bra that will work with this dress?
If your regular bra shows when wearing a low-cut neckline, you have several great options:
Natori’s Convertible Ultra-Light Contour bra features a clear plastic band in front to allow it to be worn with the most plunging necklines. Lightly-lined and constructed of semi-sheer mesh, this underwire bra has convertable straps so you can wear it regular, criss-cross, racerback and halter style.
Another option is one of the new deep plunging bras on the market such as LZ’s Up Free bra. This bra provides incredible support and fabulous cleavage for extremely low necklines. It’s also convertible, so you can wear the straps regular, halter, or criss-cross.
You might also want to try a front-closure bra designed to be extra low in the front, such
as Wacoal’s T-Back bra, style # 65124. This lightweight bra with front closure has unlined molded cups and underwire for great support. Addtionally, it features racerback straps, making it a great choice to wear for tops with deep or cutout armholes, or a demi-cup bra style.
And finally, if these bras don’t work for you, you might also want to also consider a camisole such as Cosabella’s Talco camisole which is styled with a shelf bra and adjustable straps.

What do you wear underneath backless or strapless dresses/tops if you still need support? I don’t like the idea of bra straps showing. Any suggestions?
Why, a backless, strapless bra, of course! We’ve come a long way since Otto Titzling, the inventor of the bra. “There are several great products available for exactly that problem,” confirms Cyla Weiner, owner and founder of Sylene of Washington and SyleneDC.com, an intimate apparel boutique. Read on for those!
Try either Nu Bra, NuBra Featherlite or Very Bare by Sassybax. “These adhere, come in cup sizes A to DD and work great!” assures Weiner.
Some advice borne of personal experience: Perspiration can increase the risk of your bra, well, flopping off. Clubs, while fun, can turn into sweatboxes, so proceed with caution. The bras adhere best when applied to very clean, very dry skin.
And that’s it! Go as bare as you dare and have a ball.

Regardless of style, here’s how to ensure you select the right strapless bra for you:
A Bra that Fits: A strapless bra, more than any other style, requires a perfect fit. Be 100 percent sure you are wearing the correct bra size as a strapless bra is not as forgiving as other types.
Strapless with Support: Look for a strapless bra with good support. Silicone strips add to support element and keeps everything in place without irritating the skin. A great underwire can transform a strapless bra into a support system. Even with a backless dress, complete support can be provided by convertible bras that have a low back band that stays securely in place by a strap that goes around stomach. Optional, adjustable clear straps are available for additional support.
Lift Up: If increased cleavage is desired, select a strapless bra with bump pads that are placed inside the cup. These pads lift the breast tissue up, giving illusion of more cleavage. This has a positive affect with certain styles of clothing.
Dual Purpose: A strapless bra that can be worn as a normal bra, with criss-cross tops or as a halter provide the most flexibility without sacrificing support and fit. Many of today’s strapless bras also provide a plunge line that can be worn with shirts that are low cut. Le Mystere’s Sculptural strapless push-up bra center plunges deep and has straps you can add to convert bra into several other styles.
Color Matters: Beige is the best color choice for a strapless bra. The deeper the color, the better it blends with your natural skin tone, hence blending in with your clothes. Marie Jo’s cognac color in its Avero bra is a great choice.
Other summer bra trends include accessories and reusable bra items. Nubra, a reusable, stick-on silicon bra with front closure to create cleavage, is very popular. Intimate apparel accessories including products to keep clothes in place using a double-sided tape, such as Flash Tape is another novelty. And, with women going in and out of air conditioning during the summer months, Sassynips, a compact, reusable cover for breast area, is something a woman can not live without.
