Use this checklist to make sure your bra fits you properly.

1. The back is properly adjusted; the three hooks are designed for this purpose.
2. The sides shouldn’t fold or feel too tight.
3. The bra should not move when you move around.
4. The bra should not cut into the breasts.
5. The straps should be properly adjusted; not too tight (the back strap creeps up and the breasts dip down), and not too loose (the bra is not supportive enough).

And if despite all of the correct strap adjustments, you have the feeling the back is still a little too high, choose a smaller band size and a larger cup, i.e., choose 34C instead of 36B.

Bras of Summer

May 21st, 2009

Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer. And summer means lighter, carefree clothing, often in lighter colors. Sundresses, tees, camis, bare-shouldered tanks and halter tops can make finding the perfect bra during the summer tough. Lighter clothing may be ideal for the heat of summer, but it can leave you too exposed under fine and delicate materials. But thankfully, manufacturers have gotten wise to the fact that summer clothing can require a special bra.

Here are some bras you can’t live without during the summer:

Convertible bra

Many manufacturers are now making bras with interchangeable adjustable straps that can be adjusted for strapless tops and dresses, cross-back styles, halters, or traditional T-shirts. Worn with one strap, two straps, or no straps, the convertible bra is designed to create the configuration you want with the choice of going strapless or wearing your bra many different ways.

T- Shirt bra

T-shirt bras are seamless, contoured styles that give you a sleek look under lightweight, clingy tops and knit shells, providing a completely smooth look with a natural shape. A demi bra style is great when wearing a plunging or revealing neckline.

Racer back or T- back bra

Showing your straps can be tacky or fashionable, depending on your perspective. However most women want to make sure their straps are hidden and stay hidden. For tank tops and racer back fashions, wear a racer back or t-back bra to keep your bra straps out of view. If you can’t find one in your size, a convertible bra can be modified to achieve the same result. Another solution is attaching a little plastic disc to the back of your straps, which turns a regular bra into a racer back bra.

Strapless bra

A strapless bra is a must-have in your wardrobe. Wear under spaghetti strapped tanks and strapless tops. If you believe you can’t find one that gives you a nice shape, is comfortable, and or stays up, try again, because there are more options than ever before. Even if you wear size DD bras and larger, you can find one that is supportive and flattering to your figure.

Backless/Strapless bra

A backless/strapless is the solution for extremely low cut plunging backs or fronts. Totally free of straps and nearly invisible under clothing and sheer and halter tops, this bra solves many wardrobe problems because the bra cups stick to your body and becomes a part of you. You can create different degrees of cleavage by positioning the bra cups closer or farther away.

Embarrasing Problem

July 15th, 2008

I have an embarrassing problem. Summer’s here, it’s hot outside, and I’m wearing thinner clothes. Whenever I go indoors into air conditioning, my nipples show through my clothing. Do you have any suggestions to alleviate or disguise this situation?

It’s normal for both men’s and women’s nipples to show in response to cold. But if it makes you uncomfortable, you may want to try these option to keep nipples from showing through clothing:

First, you may want to consider a T-shirt Bra. T-shirt bras are designed to appearPabaicoomfbbmnemt_4 invisible under even the thinnest fabrics. Seamless and generally made of microfiber with stretch foam shaped contour cups, their slight thickness enhances your shape and  provides modesty. Some women often mistake these bras for padded ones, yet the light foam lining doesn’t add size, just shape and support. Chantelle’s Body Sculpt bra is a good choice. Seamless, this bra will provide you with not only coverage, but great shape, too.

Nipple Concealers are another option. Made to either stick to your skin or simply sassy nipsplaced in your bra, nipple concealers will conceal nipples under gowns, tops, sheer bras, and even wet swimsuits.

Sassybax Sassynips discreetly conceals nipple show through. Made from Sassybax’s exclusive Sassymax Soufflé technology, these concealers go on easy with its own self-adhesive. Pabaacpchikkmkce_3

Low Beams by Commando are another adhesive-type nipple concealer.

bra discs

Designed and patented by an engineer, Bra Discs fit women of all shapes and sizes. Non-latex, non-adhesive, and worn with a bra, they are the solution that every woman, young and old, is looking for. Bra Discs are extremely soft and comfortable for all day wear.

Made of weightless nylon opaque mesh, this liner may be just the thing to keep nipples from showing through clothing.

Do You Have VPL?

July 1st, 2008

How do I prevent VPL or visible panty lines? I enjoy wearing white pants in the summer, but I feel like you can see my underwear.

VPL or visible panty lines are a major fashion faux pas, and can definitely be prevented.

thongWhen wearing white pants, skin-colored, seamless thongs are your best bet. Never wear white underwear with white pants, they will show. Commando makes great seamless panties in thong, mini-thong, and boyshort styles. Made of microfiber, Commandos are constructed in a microfiber fabric that is precision-cut to fit without binding elastic. Their unfinished edges never fray or roll, and lie smooth against the body. Silky smooth and extremely comfortable, Commandos are almost like your wearing nothing at all!

spanx

Shapewear is another option. Spanx makes a variety of panty shapers that are legband-free, eliminating bulging on the thighs and creating a smooth and sleek line from your waist to your upper thigh. Shapers create a firm and smooth look under clothes.

blushAnd finally, if you are inclined, try Nundies! They are truly guaranteed not to give you VPL! Nundies is a one-time use, disposable “panty” that adheres to the inseam inside of your pants. This tulip-shaped “panty” is intended for use as an alternative to wearing traditional underwear. Made from a nylon/lycra blend, Nundies are as soft as your conventional underwear, but take up less space and don’t leave embarrassing panty lines.

I have a dress with a very low v-neckline. My regular bra shows. Do you have any suggestions for a bra that will work with this dress?

If your regular bra shows when wearing a low-cut neckline, you have several great options:

natoriNatori’s Convertible Ultra-Light Contour bra features a clear plastic band in front to allow it to be worn with the most plunging necklines. Lightly-lined and constructed of semi-sheer mesh, this underwire bra  has convertable straps so you can wear it regular, criss-cross, racerback and halter style.

Another option is one of the new deep plunging bras on the market such as LZ’s Up Free bra. This bra provides incredible support and fabulous cleavage for extremely low necklines. It’s also convertible, so you can wear the straps regular, halter, or criss-cross.

You might also want to try a front-closure bra designed to be extra low in the front, such

wacoal front as Wacoal’s T-Back bra, style # 65124. This lightweight bra with front closure has unlined molded cups and underwire for great support. Addtionally, it features racerback straps, making it a great choice to wear for tops with deep or cutout armholes, or a demi-cup bra style.

cubeAnd finally, if these bras don’t work for you, you might also want to also consider a camisole such as Cosabella’s Talco camisole which is styled with a shelf bra and adjustable straps.
